ENHYPEN's DARK MOON Universe, Explained: Vampires, Webtoons, and a Comic-Con Takeover
This July, at San Diego Comic-Con 2026, a K-pop group sat on a vampire-storytelling panel alongside the director and cast of Twilight. That’s how far ENHYPEN’s fictional universe has traveled: DARK MOON started as a webtoon tie-in and became a franchise big enough to headline the world’s biggest pop-culture convention. Here’s the full picture.
What DARK MOON is
DARK MOON: THE BLOOD ALTAR launched in January 2022 as a webtoon and web novel under HYBE’s Original Stories initiative — a vampire-and-werewolf fantasy set around Decelis Academy in the seaside city of Riverfield. A mysterious transfer student, Sooha, finds herself drawn into the rivalry of seven boys, all of them vampires, each one inspired by a member of ENHYPEN.
The manhwa ran 70 chapters through August 2023, and the franchise has since piled up over 200 million cumulative views — one of the most successful idol-IP experiments ever run.
Who’s who: every member and his character
The story never uses the members’ real names. Each of the seven is a separate character with his own name and year at Decelis, which is why “which one is which” is the first thing most new readers want settled. Reviewing the Ize Press print volume for The Beat, Yazmin Garcia went through all seven, and the pairings match the ones catalogued on the series’ Wikipedia entry — listed here in the group’s lineup order, oldest to youngest:

Solon is the odd one out, and deliberately so: he’s secretly a vampire-werewolf hybrid, which is the thread that pulls the two factions into each other’s business. When the anime arrived in 2026 the same seven characters carried over, each with a Japanese and an English voice cast of its own — so the names in this table are the ones to know across the webtoon, the novel, and the show.
The music is the same story
What separates DARK MOON from a merch tie-in is that ENHYPEN’s albums inhabit the same world. The 2023 EP DARK BLOOD was built around the webtoon’s lore, led by “Bite Me” — a track about a bond sealed in blood that became the fastest fourth-generation K-pop boy group song to pass 100 million Spotify streams. The follow-up ORANGE BLOOD (“Sweet Venom”) kept the fangs in. The group’s dark-fantasy stage concepts and the IP feed each other in both directions.
The expanding universe
- DARK MOON: THE GREY CITY — a sister series set in the same universe, its characters inspired by the members of &TEAM (ENHYPEN’s Japan-based labelmates), expanding the world beyond one group.
- The anime — Dark Moon received a full animated adaptation, streaming on Crunchyroll from January 2026 in more than 80 countries.
- Comic-Con 2026 — July’s “Bite Me: Calling All Vampires” panel put ENHYPEN in conversation with Twilight director Catherine Hardwicke and cast members — K-pop lore formally joining the vampire canon.
Why it matters
DARK MOON is the clearest proof yet of the model we described in What Is K-pop Lore?: build a universe, and every comeback becomes a chapter, every webtoon reader a potential fan, every anime viewer a new listener. ENHYPEN’s mini album arrived August 21 with a title track called “Bloody Paradise” — the fangs, clearly, are staying.
