YUJU's '미제' (Mije), Explained: A Title Track Written as an Unsolved Case
A note from this site’s author: I am a longtime GFRIEND fan, and YUJU is my favorite member.
Near the end of YUJU’s video for “미제” (Mije), a file-save dialog appears on a laptop. A sentence begins to appear in the filename field, is erased, and is replaced by the song’s Korean title. That brief hesitation turns the album’s idea of unfinished relationships into an action on screen.
On October 14, 2026, YUJU, GFRIEND’s main vocalist and a soloist since her 2022 EP Rec., released her fourth mini album, file. 07, led by “미제”. The word is the one Korean uses for an unsolved case, the file that never gets closed. The official introduction on the album page reads, in translation: “They say unfinished feelings last the longest and leave the deepest mark. This album is for the countless unresolved relationships that never got their ending.” The video brings that idea into a room filled with instruments, recording equipment and fragments of information.
Files, not tracks
The first clue is on the tracklist itself. For the first time, YUJU labeled her songs “file” instead of “track”. In her release-day Q&A, she said she approached each song as an unsolved case file and hoped listeners would keep returning to the music as they would to an unresolved case.
The six files are “그 뒤가 얼마나 무서울지 모른 채”, “미제”, “Love Gamer” featuring JUNNY, “SOS”, “Rock Bottom”, and “추신”, which is Korean for a postscript. The credits list YUJU as the lyricist and a co-composer on every song. Ben Bliss co-composed all six, and GroovyRoom also co-composed “Love Gamer”. Ben Bliss and Jaesung arranged the other five songs; Jaesung arranged “Love Gamer” alone. Korean outlets highlighted her lyrics and co-composition credits on release day.
Why “미제” became the title
YUJU said work on the album began with “미제”. Hearing people around her keep humming the song helped confirm it as the title track. In her release-day Q&A, she also said she recorded every song without a vocal director. She decided how to sing each song herself. She paid particular attention to the words because each syllable would reach the listener as written.
The video gives that writing and recording a visual setting. YUJU holds a guitar, fingers press piano keys around 0:52, and a laptop shows the recording session around 1:43. Those scenes put the songwriter at the center of the video.
Her own memory of the shoot is a smaller story. Asked for a behind-the-scenes memory in the same Q&A, she picked two: the music video shoot, and the one-take album sampler. A perfect take was ruined at the very last moment when a fly flew into the shot, so they shot it again.
The board in the room
Around 0:40, YUJU approaches a board covered with photographs, papers and notes linked by red string, and her hand goes to the string. The board shares the room with the guitars, the piano and the recording gear, so the search for connections and the music-making happen in the same space. The pieces can be gathered and linked, but the way they are laid out never gives a clear answer about the relationship behind the song.
The filename at the end
The connection becomes especially clear in the save dialog at 2:30-2:36. The dialog is labeled “Save Live Set As”, with a field for the project’s name. The opening words of the chorus appear in that field, are partly deleted, and give way to “미제”. The chorus describes the pain of being unable to name a relationship; the filename field turns that difficulty into an action on screen.
The sequence suggests that naming a project does not resolve the relationship behind it. The music can be kept in a file even when the feeling has no clear ending.
There is another detail after the AT AREA logo: YUJU moves out of view, and the video ends on the board. The final shot leaves those connections in place, even after the project has a name.
The live versions
The YouTube live-session channel it’s Live released a band version on October 20, 2026, under the English title “Nameless”. That title offers another way into the video’s hesitation over a name. The performance also changes the visual setting: YUJU stands in a circle of white light against a blue background, with the band behind her. The open stage leaves much more space around her.
She also performed the song on MBC M’s Show Champion on October 21, 2026. The full stage is on MBC Plus’s ALL THE K-POP channel.
The GFRIEND thread
Asked about unfinished feelings in the same Q&A, YUJU thought of her GFRIEND members. They still laugh when their eyes meet, but their separate activities mean they cannot meet often, and she sometimes feels a sudden longing. She described a special relationship that one word cannot fully define.
There is affection in that answer as well as absence. She was answering a question about her own unfinished feelings, and by choosing the members as her answer, she lets that idea include people who remain close. Set beside GFRIEND’s longer story, that answer is a glimpse of how YUJU herself describes the bond.
Fans who know that story, from the disbandment to the reunion, will hear the answer differently. The album is for relationships that never got their ending. The relationship she reached for is still going, and she still has no single word for it.
